A Guide to Using Flexi-MediSave for Dental Care
What is Flexi-MediSave?
Flexi-MediSave is a scheme that allows Singaporeans aged 60 and above to use their own MediSave funds to help pay for approved outpatient treatments. If you are married, you may also use your spouse’s MediSave to help pay for your dental care, provided your spouse is also 60 years old or above.
The current annual limit is up to S$400 per patient. This amount was recently raised from the previous S$300 limit to provide more support for seniors’ dental needs.
Where Can You Use It?
Flexi-MediSave can be used at polyclinics, public hospital Specialist Outpatient Clinics, and dental clinics that participate in the Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS). At Neo Smiles Dental Studio, we are a CHAS dental clinic, meaning our patients can explore using these funds for their dental care.
When choosing a clinic, it is always a good idea to check if they are a CHAS participating clinic to ensure you can access these benefits. For more information on how different schemes work, you can read about financial assistance and subsidies.
What Dental Procedures Are Covered?
Currently, the scheme covers select restorative dental procedures. This also includes the costs of dental consultations, necessary tests, and any medicines ordered by your dentist as part of the treatment process.
It is important to note that the exact amount you can claim depends on your individual circumstances and the specific rules set by the authorities. For a different type of dental procedure, you might want to read about using MediSave for dental implants.
Combining Flexi-MediSave with CHAS Subsidies
One of the benefits of this scheme is that Flexi-MediSave can be used together with CHAS subsidies for eligible patients. This can help reduce the out-of-pocket costs for dental treatments.
Typically, the CHAS subsidy is applied to your bill first. After the subsidy has been applied, Flexi-MediSave can then be used to cover a portion of the remaining eligible amount, up to your annual limit.
Upcoming Expansion in 2026
There is good news on the horizon for dental care. From mid-2026, the Flexi-MediSave scheme is set to expand its coverage. Once implemented, patients will be able to use Flexi-MediSave for root canal treatments and permanent dental crowns at CHAS dental clinics and public healthcare institutions.
Please note that this is an announced upcoming change. We recommend that you confirm the exact timing and your specific eligibility with official sources like the CPF Board or the Ministry of Health (MOH) as the date approaches.
Planning Your Dental Care
Because eligibility and claimable amounts are subject to individual circumstances and official rules that may change, it is always wise to verify your situation. You can check the official CPF Board website, the CHAS site, or the MOH website for the most current information.
At Neo Smiles Dental Studio, we are happy to help you understand how these schemes might apply to your visit. Feel free to ask our team about your specific case during your consultation.
