Dental Subsidies in Singapore: CHAS, Medisave & Student Rates
A clear breakdown of what CHAS, Medisave, Pioneer/Merdeka Generation schemes and CDC/SG60 Vouchers actually cover for dental treatment at Neo Smiles — and what’s not covered, like elective orthodontics.
For the treatment itself (braces types, the treatment steps and indicative fees), see our guide to braces in Singapore.
CHAS dental subsidies
Neo Smiles is a CHAS-accredited clinic. CHAS (Community Health Assist Scheme) subsidises selected general dental treatments — such as scaling & polishing, extractions and fillings — for eligible cardholders, with the subsidy amount depending on your CHAS tier (Blue / Orange) and the treatment received.
| CHAS tier | Applies to | Indicative subsidy |
|---|---|---|
| CHAS Orange | Eligible households | $7.50–$410 depending on treatment (e.g. $13.50 consultation, $20 scaling & polishing, up to $45.50 extraction) |
| CHAS Blue | Eligible households | $11–$615 depending on treatment (e.g. $20.50 consultation, $30 scaling & polishing, up to $68.50 extraction) |
| Pioneer/Merdeka Generation | Eligible seniors | $16–$625 (Merdeka Generation) / $21–$625 (Pioneer Generation) — the highest subsidy tier, above the equivalent CHAS Blue rate |
Amounts per the official CHAS Dental Subsidy Schedule (effective 1 Oct 2025 — the current published schedule as of this page’s drafting). Actual subsidy varies by specific procedure and annual claim limits; verify against chas.sg before publishing, as CHAS reviews subsidy amounts periodically.
CHAS subsidies apply to general dental treatment, not to elective orthodontics such as braces or Invisalign.
Medisave for dental treatment
Medisave can be used for a defined list of dental procedures approved by the CPF Board — most relevantly, the surgical component of dental implant treatment and select oral surgery such as wisdom tooth extraction. Crowns and cosmetic/elective components are generally not Medisave-claimable. Exact claimable amounts depend on the specific procedure and current CPF Board limits.
Pioneer / Merdeka Generation & Public Assistance
Eligible Pioneer Generation, Merdeka Generation and Public Assistance cardholders receive additional subsidy on top of CHAS for qualifying general dental treatment at Neo Smiles. For example, scaling & polishing is currently subsidised up to $30 for CHAS Blue cardholders, $35 for Merdeka Generation, and $40 for Pioneer Generation — the Merdeka/Pioneer Generation subsidy is consistently set above the equivalent CHAS Blue rate across the CHAS Dental Subsidy Schedule.
CDA Baby Bonus & CDC/SG60 Vouchers
Neo Smiles accepts CDA (Child Development Account / Baby Bonus) funds and CDC/SG60 Vouchers for eligible general dental services, settled via NETS. Baby Bonus (CDA) and Flexi-MediSave can be used at every Neo Smiles clinic — Bedok, Serangoon and Bishan. Flexi-MediSave lets Singaporeans and PRs aged 60 and above use their own — or their spouse’s (if also aged 60 and above) — MediSave to help pay for approved outpatient treatments, up to $400 per patient per year (the annual withdrawal limit rose from $300 to $400 on 1 October 2025). From mid-2026 this was extended to cover approved dental procedures such as root canal treatment and permanent dental crowns at participating CHAS dental clinics like Neo Smiles; routine treatments such as scaling and polishing are not covered under this dental expansion. Eligibility and the exact amount claimable are confirmed at your visit.
Braces, Invisalign & Smartee specifically: what's not covered
To be clear and avoid confusion: braces, Invisalign and Smartee clear aligners are all elective orthodontic treatments and are not covered by Medisave or CHAS, in line with CPF Board and MOH guidance. This is standard across all orthodontic providers and clear-aligner brands in Singapore, not a Neo Smiles-specific policy. For orthodontic fee information, see our braces cost guide, Invisalign cost guide and Smartee clear aligners page.
Student braces rates
Neo Smiles offers a dedicated student braces package to make orthodontic treatment more accessible for students — see Student Braces for eligibility and details.
